Default Kit lens plastic mount damaged.

I have a weird question, but I thought I would ask, anyway. Allow me to offer up background information. I recently purchased a Nikon D7000 with a plastic mount, kit lens, 18-105mm. I broke a small piece off of the plastic mount, rendering it useless. I upgraded to a better set of lenses that have metal mounts, which are much more durable. I got a Nikon 16-85mm, which I use as my walk-around lens. I also picked up a 70-300mm for longer shots. Both lenses are more costly and perform better than any kit lens that I've previously had. Although i have much doubt, my question is: Can the original kit lens, with the plastic mount be repaired?

FTFY

Depends on what you broke. If the only problem is that it doesn't fit onto the mount any more, then yea, easy fix. If you broke an electrical contact, you can probably still fix it, but it'll cost you. Maybe snap a picture of the broken mount so we know what you are talking about.

I broke off a minute particle of a piece of the plastic, screwing-piece that locks the lens onto the camera body. If I hold the lens in place, the camera will snap a pic and the lens performs properly. Nothing else is damaged. All electrical contacts are in place. If I took a pic and posted, you'd probably not even be able to recognize the damage. That's how small it is. Do local camera shops fix such a break or should I try Nikon? I guess I could try both and see which one has the best price, as well as the best solution. Any further thoughts?
