Default 1D Mark II Auto Focus

I recently purchased a used 1D Mark II off another photographer. I'm learning everything about it, and I read the manual front to back, but I can't figure out the auto focus.

The photographer I bought it from said it worked perfectly. The manual says the camera should auto focus when you press the shutter down halfway... but it doesn't do anything.

And yes, I have my lens set to AF. I hope I'm just doing something wrong here.

Any ideas? Thanks!

You can separate the auto focus function from the shutter. Someone may have done that. It's often called "back button auto focus". It should be available for you to change in the menus.

as noted above, this was probably set by the previous owner. You should be able to cycle through the custom settings to see where it had been changed, and then set it to the default setting

Or just try using the AF-ON or * button on the back instead.

Ahhhh... thank you all so much! It was a custom function he had set to turn it off. All's well now.
