Thoughts and Suggestions to spend $400 bucks on a camera

I have been looking for weeks at all the digital cameras in all price ranges, 200 to 1200 bucks. I have a preference for Canon since I worked there for 10 years a long time ago, great company and quality. I never seem to see much about the Canon SX30IS, comments or reviews. I like what it has for the price and seems much more flexible than the SD790 IS I now use. Any comments or suggestion would be much appreciated.

I have the SX30IS for a point & shoot when the SLR just is not called for. It takes some very nice images, has more control than alot of P&S, price is good and covers a large focal range. All in all, I am happy with the purchase.
