Default Leica

I noticed there was no section devoted to Leica. I am planning on getting a M9 after I pay for ATP Flight School, but in the mean time I plan on getting an M3 with a nice 50mm lens since I have become more and more fascinated with the Rangefinder cameras and I am going to buy one of each generation for collection purposes only and to use them occasionally just to play around. I would probably use some high grain B&W film for that vintage look with the M3.

Anyone else have a Leica or plan on getting one in the near future? I would like to get a Devoted forum section if there are enough. If no one is interested then I understand the reasoning of not having already created a section for these.

I am also a huge fan of the S series DSLR, however I can't see spending 22,000 on a camera body made specifically for doing portraits unless I am doing well in that industry. a Nikon D3X would do just as good for the level of work I plan to do, but the Rangefinders are just for playing with

I play with Leica-R lenses on my Canons. If you do take the plunge, you'll probably love it.

Canon 5Dii, adapted Leitz Summicron-R 35mm.

3bayjunkie, you might have better luck on the Leica User Forum or the rangefinder forum.

Yeah I know they have complete forums for these. I am already on three photography forums and Its enough work to have to check back and forth between them all. This is one of the better forum communities that I've seen. I am also on photography forum and thephotography forum.

you can get a Leica M3 for under a grand. And you can get a Leica M8 for about $2500. A used M9 will run ya around $6,000 so you might as well spend the extra $1000 and get it new.

For 2500 I can get a D700. And not have to spent over $1000 on a 50mm lens.

Leicas are fine if youve got the money and need something small and can live with the limited focal lengths (21-135). Most of my shooting is outside that range.

Yes that is true, they are a bit expensive. However it would be more of a toy or something just to bring on trips where I want to pack light. I'd still recommend having an SLR. And you are right their lenses are expensive but a 50mm F/0.95!!! I want it!!! Not sure why, but i do. Just gotta save up $10,000 for one.
