Question What would you do?

I've recently developed a keen interest in photography after subscribing to national geographic and seeing the incredible photos of the different indigenous peoples and wild animals. Ever since that first encounter I have wanted to do photography more than anything else. However I have a delima, I cant possibly lay down that sort of money

I know you probly want to slap me because of that statement. You might have been thinking its not the camera that makes the photo or this kid must be stupid, etc... I do have a good reason for wanting reasonably good gear. My biggest interest is outdoor photography and with my lil camera the best shots I've ever gotten required me to lay down in wet snow and wait about 15 minutes for a bird to come. Its the only way I can get close enough to get a good shot. Not quite what I plan on doing every shot.

I have considered saving up the money for a good outdoor setup (most likely some pentax stuffs) but this brings up another problem. What do I do if I don't turn out to be a prodigy and and make millions of moneys?

TL;DR: It is too damn long isn't it? Sorry

What choice would you make if you were in my position.

A) Rational decision: forget about it and go on with life
B) Follow my dreams: Spend oodles of dollars in the hopes I can be good at something

ohhhhhhhhh that's a good one!!

you think those photos in National Geographic weren't a result of hard work? I can bet you those photographers took thousands upon thousands upon thousands of photos just to get the one shot. I bet you they were laying in the snow, or braving a rainstorm, or being eaten alive by mosquitos, too.

those shots don't come because you have a good camera. they come because you have skill and talent, which i think can be learned (a little bit), but you have to have and "eye for it" in the first place.

of course a better camera will help, but if you're a shitty photographer, chances are the more expensive of a camera you have in your hands, the worse your pictures are going to be, because you don't know how to control it. just because you have a racecar doesn't mean you'll win on raceday.

just because you're not a good photographer now doesn't mean you won't be, but you don't have to spend oodles of money.

you're likely not going to make any money off your photography. only a small percentage make money. and even if you do start to make money, if you suck, your clients will realize it, and then you won't make any more money.

why not get a camera that is more advanced than your current one, and learn how to use it.

Great article, i just puked a little after reading this:

'This worm was actually visible under the skin of my foot and would move at night. It became a game to find the worm in my foot each morning.'

I hope he sold those pictures for millions of dollars each.
