Cool Shutter speed stays at 30 and below

Hi all,

New member here! Have an issue where I am unable to get high shutter speeds.

I own a Sony Dslr A200 and have read, or almost read, the manual from cover to cover.

The camera was working fine but I had been fiddling with it since I went on a course and now find that the shutter speed does not go beyond 1/30 sec.

Pressing down the AEL button while turning the dial to set the speed does not seem to do anything.

Does anyone have any idea as what is going on?! Will appreciate some light on the matter!!!

Not sure what setting you would have tweaked to cause that, stupid question i know, but have you tried it in full manual mode?

if in doubt you can always go for the factory reset option in the settings menu. I have had to go for that so may times after playing with settings in both my cameras

What mode are you shooting in, and does it also happen in bright ambient light?

AEL stands for Auto-Exposure Lock. This locks your exposure settings in. Perhaps you want exposure compensation button to the left of it. The one labelled with the +/- and Av. Or just turning the dial without pressing any button.

In manual mode the AEL button is the modifier for the wheel, so if the wheel is adjusting aperture, holding AEL will make it adjust the shutter speed.

Hi all, thank you very much for your responses. I appreciate them.
My response to the queries/suggestions:
Yes I tried it in full manul mode and the same happens in ambient light.
Oh - it say 30, not 1/30. (you can tell how basic I am!)
Have tried the compensation button, and only the dial - it goes up to BULB and that is it.
Maybe I should go back to factory setting and see what happens? Will try it and let you know. (if I can work it out!)
cheers!

Whoopee!! Reseting the camera has worked! However, I am still intrigued as to what would have caused the exposure to stick at 30. Just hope I don't do it again.
cheers!
