Question looking for recommendations

I finally decided it was time to upgrade my point & shoot. I used to have a Kodak Easyshare DX7630, and I was getting tired of how clunky it was. Pictures were great, but I was looking for something that would fit in my purse better. I picked up a Fujifilm Finepix JX260 yesterday, big mistake. I was sorely disappointed in the quality of the photos. I'm taking it back today, and I'm wondering what models I should be looking at that would be at least as good in features and quality as my my old p&s.

Default P&S

As far as Point & Shoot cameras go, I am very happy with my Canon PowerShot A1100IS.

There are sooo many factors determining what recommendations I would give.. Not the least of which would be budget.

Over the last few years, point and shoot cameras have lost image quality in favor of gimmicks like face recognition, scene modes, and mega-ultra-super-zoom lenses. These cameras will do everything .. but not do anything well.

Panasonic, Olympus and a few other companies have created new mirror-less SLR cameras that hope to bring that quality back to the masses with the flexibility of interchangeable lenses in a smaller, less expensive body. My small back-up camera is an EPL-1 Pen camera from Olympus. Love it.

Since you seem to have reached a point in your photography that you recognize quality in your photography.. you may not be happy with a point and shoot camera anymore...
