I am not realy experienced in photography, have been using a Kodak DX7590 and found it mostly adequate for my needs but it died recently and it's time to replace it, thinking about what I need............
1. must be rugged as I do a lot of bush walking and it will surely get a few knocks 2. that feature that allows for compensation of shake sounds good (I have a bit of a tremor) 3. delayed / timed shutter release 4. remote shutter release 5. good zoom 6. macro 7. rechargeable batteries Anybody out there care to comment on good value cameras available with the listed features? PS is there a solar recharger available for camera batteries? Thanks Don |

I don't think you're going to find a solar charger specific for a particular camera battery pack, but you can probably find AA chargers, or a charger that supplies to household AC current, so you could plug the battery pack charger into that.
In terms of your feature list, I think you're not going to find anything. The only P&S cameras I know that can take a remote are the Canon G11 and G12, and they're not particularly rugged in terms of being water/weather-proof, although they are metal body cameras. And the rugged cameras tend to be a little limited, feature-wise. But you might want to look at the Panasonic Lumix TS models. Nearly all the other features, though, you can find.

Ok, I think I'm on the track of the camera that will be my choice, it covers most of the bases but now I hear about memory card write speed, time for the camera to take the pic (one person told me it can take up to a second after pressing the shutter release for the shutter to actualy do its thing, can that be true?) and the time it takes for the camera to save and process the image which I assume is the memory card write speed. The camera I am looking at is the Canon SX30 IS, can anyone tell me where I can find answers to the points raised above.
Thanks Don |

The solar digital camera battery chargers are easy to use. When buying a charger for your camera it is important to check out the volts of your camera battery.
