Default White Picture

Hi Im new to the dslr world, my bro in law, took my camera and changed some settings on it, he increased the shutter speed to 30 seconds without me knowing it, and I took a picture inside by the windows and in the light, it came out all white, because of all the light. Should I be concerned about damage to the sensor? Thanks for all your help!!

Nope. Just change your settings to proper exposure.

Yeah,... I dont get that either.

Welcome to DPS! though. I dont have an answer for you, I still havent gotten my DSLR. Soon, but not yet. I don't know if you've been watching this site or not,..but beware that you will sometimes get some very sarcastic comments. With the good comes the bad. Some are a lil mean, some are just tough love. Take it all in stride. There are also a lot of very helpful people here. Photography is an art and art is subjective, which means that not everyone is going to like your work. If your new to photography, theres a lot to learn here. There are some that are professionals and come from the days of film. These members can be harsh at times, but keep in mind that theyve literally been there and done that. They speak from experience. I've learned A LOT from the people here just in the somewhat short time I've been a member of this site. Again, welcome to DPS and I look forward to seeing some of what you can do.

Just seems like extremely trollish circumstances to me.

Maybe I'm naive and trusting, but it didn't strike me as a troll. Trolls usually come up with something inflammatory or controversial, and the question didn't seem controversial ... I mean, if he'd said his sensor had been burned out he might have got something going, but just asking if it might be damaged ... nah.

Sorry if I was being a Troll, I was just trying to make sure my camera was ok, all I could find was about pointing the camera toward the sun, and I was just trying to figure about normal indoor light. Thanks to all the kind and helpful comments.

I'm sorry that we have some suspicious folks around here, but trolls are more common than you might expect even on a low-key and non-controversial board like this ... anyway, welcome to DPS. To recap Jim's answer, your camera should be fine. Just don't lend it to your BIL
