Default Compact Digital Question

Hey everyone,
I hope someone knows equipment, because I have been searching all over the net and I can't find an answer.

I brought my wife's Sony Cybershot with me on a business trip instead of my D90, and I took a lot of pictures today. But I was irritated by the lack of control (I guess that happens when a dSLR user picks up a point and shoot).

Anyway, I seem to remember seeing a newer compact that gives control over f/stop and aperture by the use of a couple of rings, one around the lens, and one on the back, IIRC. However, the only thing I can find now is the Powershot S95, but I don't think it's the same one I was thinking about, and I can't for the life of me remember the brand.

Can someone tell me if they know of a compact, or ultra compact, that lets you set aperture and/or speed to a ring, and is not the Powershot S90 or S95.?

Thanks.

The Canon G12 will allow the control you're looking to do + RAW support and a flip out LCD screen and hot shoe...but no rings??

The G12 doesn't have the S90/S95's control ring around the lens, but there's a new dial on the front, so you have a similar "dual wheel" control like you do with the prosumer dSLRs: one control dial on the back under the thumb, one on the front under the forefinger.

AFAIK, though, the S90/S95 are the only ones with the control ring on the front around the lens.

Thanks guys. I think you're right. But I swear it's not the one I saw a few months ago.

Anyway, let me ask another question then: do you recommend any decent ultracompacts that offer aperture and speed priority modes? I mean easy to access modes, not one you have to cycle through 5 menus to get to, and not one that has 25 different modes.

On my dSLR I hardly ever use any of the special modes; I almost always P, M, A or S priority. I like the control over the settings.

I had an old Powershot S45 I gave to my son. I may just take it back and get him a cheap point and shoot.

Thanks.

The S90/95 and G series do that: the PSAM modes are on a dial on the top.
