Hi
I need to buy a smal setup for fashion photography. My purpose is: 1) Indoor/ studio shoots 2) Outdoor Shoots 3) Running fashion shows For the time being, do not consider studio lighting, umbrellas etc. Apart from these what will be the best setup under US$3000 I need 1) Camera Body 2) Lens 3) Flash Light Waiting for expert comments thanks

And there's no such thing as a "semi SLR camera", What do you currently use and what do you want your new camera to do that your current one doesnt.

You know that a studio setup is basically so you can light the subject, right?
And that you can do umbrellas, etc. with speedlight flashes--you don't have to use monolights (although monolights might be a better bargain in some cases than a speedlight hotshoe flash).Right now with your budget, while a full-frame body would probably be best for the type of work you're envisioning, I think you're going to have to stay with a crop body if you're buying new, or a used Canon 5D Mark I if you can find one used. Say, about $1000 for a camera body of your choice. I'd say stick with Nikon or Canon, simply because of the extensive systems both offer and the possibility of upgrading to full frame in the future. And Nikon particularly, if you plan to get into off-camera lighting with speedlights. Sony has that freaking Minolta hotshoe, and Pentax doesn't offer as many faster-than f/2.8 primes as the others. Olympus is out mostly because of the smaller sensor. You definitely want to be looking at fast portrait primes, as well as f/2.8 zooms. Probably the primes, though, because they're, and if you want to get an f/2.8 zoom, you can probably afford either a 24-70/2.8 or a stabilized 70-200/2.8, but not both. For flash, I'd say get the top-of-the-line OEM as your first flash, and then think of extending with cheaper all-manual flashes later for a Strobist setup. The SB-900 or 580EX II are going to be the best choice for both on and off camera.

Thanks for all these comments. Now I will go for Canon 7D.
About lenses, i want to finalized one lens from these two 1) Canon 24-70L 2.8 2) Canon 17-55 IS USM 2.8 Now I have 2 question 1) is "Is it a big deal that the 24-70mm doesn't have IS on it" ? 2) Which is best lens for indoor/studio/outdoor photoshoots? thanks

I am not as experienced as some but the 17 would be to short for what you want, being that close to your subject will cause the perspective to distort to much so on that reasoning alone I think the 28-70 would be better. IS is used at less than 1/ focal length and off tripod. If you are going to have good lighting or setup a strobe kit then no it should't affect you much.
Why wouldn't you go with a very good 50mm 1.4 prime and then the 70-200 IS f/2.8. Then you have more flexibility and the prime is a far better, crisper lens. (this last is as much a question as my thoughts.)
