Default What are some good digital cameras to consider for beginning photography?

I am just getting in to professional digital photography. What are some good cameras to start out with? I have done some photography, but I am looking to purchase a camera with a much better picture.

asc2,

Are you talking about getting a DSLR then? What do you plan to shoot?

Why am I reminded of this?

To the OP: basically what you want to shoot and how much you have to spend is going to determine what kind of camera gear you want to look at. So, what are you shooting? And what's your budget?

The "I want to buy a rangefinder" ones are even better if you've been in on any Leica messageboard discussions. Do not drink while viewing.
