Default which DSLR should buy?

Hi everyone,

I'm passionate food-blogger and trying to learn food (and nature) photography all the time. These days, I use my very basic Olympus camera for taking food images and really excited to upgrade my camera to DSLR in near future.

I've been eyeing for Nikon D60 and D90. As I'm completely novice to DSLR things, will catch up and learn fast though. I would love to hear your idea/suggestions/tips ---which camera should I buy for food photography? I love macro photography.

Please give me rough idea about lens and accessories I would need. Your inputs will really help to any novice like me.

Thanks so much!

I'm not a Nikon user, so I can't comment on those cameras in a very helpful way, but buying the right lens will generally make a bigger difference than the camera body.

I don't know what your budget is, but keep in mind that you may need a macro lens if you are really interested in macro photography. It can be done without a dedicated macro lens using closeup filters and reverse mounting a lens), but if you really love macro, you'll be looking for a macro lens soon, so you may want to keep that in mind.

With food photography, I don't think the camera body is going to matter as much as getting a macro lens and learning how to light stuff (which may also require getting some lighting gear). Having the D90 (or its rumored successor, the D7000?) may give you an edge by having CLS commander capability in the pop-up flash, if you can afford to buy Nikon speedlights for off-camera lighting, but either body should do fine.

Thank you all for your inputs. I'm not fussy about the camera brand. My initial budget is not more than $1500 (including lens and accessories) And Canon or Nikon, either will be fine, just need to be fit in my budget.

I have the D60 twin lens kit and love it, but if buying now I would go the D90, even with just the one lens.
I have several friends with the canon 550d twin lens kit also, and they are great too.
either the canon or nikon are fine.
