Hi Everyone,
I am planning to buy my first DSLR. I have selected D90 as it comes within my budget and also it has good features. I have problem in selecting lenses as I have never used it before. However, I did some readings over the net and selected below (budget considerations are there!!!). I intend to do portrait, landscape and bit of macro photography with my new DSLR. AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR - kit lens that comes along with D90 AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D Let me know whether these lens serve the above purpose. Do I need to get any filters to protect the lens? Regards, Bala Last edited by kbmkris; 09-05-2010 at 03:52 PM. Reason: asking some more information |

I think you can be happy with a set like that. I don't know how the 18-105mm performs as I've never researched that one, but it should be an adequate lens.
The 50mm prime is a very good lens for portraits and you should definitely get that one. As for macro, with those lenses you don't really have much macro options. If it's going to be a big part of your photography, you should perhaps look for a dedicated macro lens. Those macro lenses are also perfect for portraits, but they have quite a price tag. You could consider buying a reverse ring (?) and reverse-mount the 50mm for macro, maybe someone else here could comment on that.
