Default Upgrade new or used

Thinking of upgrading to a new Nikon or Canon, but can't decide if I should look at used. I do have a $1000 to $1500 budget, so looking for some feedback. Currently have Sony Alpha 300. Mahalo from Hawaii

Purchased new Canon 50d w/ 28-135 IS lens for $1076 from Best Buy...seemed like a good price considering other online sites sold the body new for about $900 and on Craigslist locally, not many for sale.

Why do you want to upgrade? As in, what is the A300 doing/not doing for you?

Why do you think changing brands will help? What do you have invested in lenses and other gear for Sony/Minolta/Alpha?

It entirely depends on what you want to do, as Osmosis suggests.

In that price range, you have a LOT of options. In Canon alone...

If you want full frame, you can get a used 5D + a good prime for decent zoom
If you want high frame rate and a professional level body you can get a 1DnMkII
If you want video and high resolution you can find a used 7D body-only
If you want a new camera, you can get the 50D or the T21 with an extra lens or two...

Lots of options, I'm sure there are more in other brands.

There was definitely some weirdness going on here; I had already read Os' reply before I replied, but our messages have the same timestamp. I don't remember seeing the second message. In any case, the 50D is nice, enjoy!
