Default Buying used, what to look for?

So I'm planning on buying a used Canon t1i to save money to buy nicer lens. My question is, what are the red flags? What should I be aware of / look for that would say DON'T BUY ME?

Well its a lot like buying a used car. If you go to a major dealer you will pay the highest price, but typically will get some sort of warranty. If you buy from an individual you will pay less, but once you go any problems are yours. You can buy on-line from eBay (or similar) and you will typically get the best price, but will likely have some surprises with your purchase.

That said, I have found Craigslist to be an excellent source for used photo equipment. You typically meet a person with the equipment and can try it out before you hand over the cash, so that you can verify everything is working correctly.

I don't know much but rattling and clanking and grinding noises aren't probably a good thing. :P

Check the actuation count if you can. And of course test with a lens that it actually even works. Sounds obvious but people accidentally buy cars that don't have engines cos they didn't check if it had one.

Haha that was pretty much what I was thinking does anyone have experience buying refurbished from canon or adorama? I'm assuming the quality is good from either?
