Hello all, I have a Nikon D40x and was just goven a Cannon EOS D10.
The Cannon is not currently working. I'm wondering if it is worth fixing the Cannon. I'm new to photography and am not sure which camera is better. I know the Nikon is Newer. The Nikon has a Dx 18-55mm lens The Cannon has a ef 28-80mm lens And advise would be appreciated. Thanks |

The D10 is a higher-tiered camera (i.e., it's a mid-level "prosumer" camera), but it's so old that it's probably going to cost more than it's worth to fix it, and it still won't give you the same level of image quality the D40x will.
However, if you were planning on buying a new camera, you could call up Canon Service, and ask about the Canon Loyalty program. This is where they let you trade in an old, broken out-of-warranty camera for a refurbished current model. Last I heard you would get offered a refurb XS for ~$350, or a refurbed 50D for about $650. The 50D is definitely a better camera and is sort of between the Nikon D90 and D300s. It retails right now, new, for around $1000. So, maybe keep the 10D around until you're thinking about upgrading.
