Default Canon lenses compatability

Really basic question, for which I apologize.

I inherited an older (guessing mid 90s) Canon EOS Rebel and several lenses. If I bought a new DSLR body, are the lenses compatible?

They should be fine... The only ones that wouldn't work are the old canon film F mount lenses. You might need to ship them off to the manufacturers to get the software updated so they will work with newer digitals but they should mount up fine.

Slight correction. F-mount is Nikon. The old FD or FL mount Canon lenses are incompatible with the EOS mount.

Not exactly a software update--older lenses usually require a rechipping, and some manufacturers may not offer this for very old lenses. And this is typically only true if the lenses are 3rd-party (i.e., not Canon branded). Canon EF lenses shouldn't have any issues at all.
