I have the 3000 and I love it... but am already frustrated with it.

About the 3000.. it is VERY easy to learn on. I knew NOTHING 5 months ago. So its very self explanatory. The only problem is that it doesn't take very long to realize WHY its a beginner camera. It does not have all the bells and whistles that some others have. My biggest complaint so far has been that the body itself doesn't auto-focus, so you have to buy the AF-S lens, which costs more than the regular lens. AND I have yet to find a 50mm AF-S. I could be wrong (it happens a lot. LOL) but I don't think they make a 50prime AF-S and I SUCK at manual focus. I don't know if that is a camera thing or a me thing. I would figure its me. If I had known that I would have went with the D80 or D90 that is pretty easy to figure out but has the auto focus in the body. JMHO though!

Hi Abhijit,

If u hv already decided to buy either D3000 or D5000...thn there r certain thing u hv to ask urself:
* Do u want live view or not?(D5000 has Live View)
* Do u want video mode or not? (D5000 has video mode)
* Flash range for D 5000 is 17mts. & for D3000 its 12mts.
* D5000 has CMOS sensor & D3000 has CCD sensor which consumes more battery, hwever u can shoot up 500 pics on a single charge.

Thats the only difference between the two DSLRs. Apart fm that the price difference. In India, the price of D3000 is somewhere around INR 30,000/- & D5000 is of INR 51,000/-. Sensor size is same. So u hv to decide which one u sud go for & i do agree with the earlier comment that u wont get all the features avalible in the entry level DSLR.

So, its u whos gonna decide now

Smile Hi there

You should check out the Pentax k.X my daughter got one it's a sweet camera plus you cane the old lenses with this camera and it has the shake reduction built in. something to think about. I hear people compare it to the Nikon D-90 abit but I never used a D90 so not sure. I had the d3000 sold it and got the K100D yes I went back in time but for the price and only 1'400 shouts plus the 50mm 1'7 lens it's a beauty and I have the old glass that will work on this little gem nothing bad about Nikon. I've got the old film cameras they are tanks just keep going but then so does my old spotty. I could not aford the d90 got a truck payment to worry about .

No problem using AF on Canon...all the AF lenses have focus motors in them and have done since the EOS range was launched. Just sayin'

While i used to use Pentax and Minolta in the ancient times when it came to getting back into photography i asked a friend of mine that has a studio what i should go for in the new fangled digital age. He gave me this advice. ask yourself these questions....

1. How high tech are you going with your photography in the next 2 years? Is it point and shoot snapping or are you looking at shots you can use professionally and play with well in post production?

2. Do you need a camera that has access to loads of glass and gadgets to add on that you will need a big bag for or are you happy with a high mega pix point and shoot that you can get decent results with?

3. Are you intending on learning a DSLR inside and out on every function or are you getting it just to say you own one?

4. The most important thing before you decide on a brand. Pick up the camera and make sure it feels comfortable for you. Forget brand loyalty before you know what functions you like. Do the things you know and want to know fall comfortably under your fingers and does it fit in your hands like it is meant to be there?

I went into the shop with it in mind that i was going to go for old brands. I walked out as a Nikon owner because it fit me.

You wouldn't think of buying shoes that don't fit just because they look cool. No need to do it with a camera either.
