Hi Guys/Gals
Im struggling to decide which camera to get, the Canon 1000D or the Nikon D3000. I have looked into both these camera's and only see a few things that differ between them. Here is my delema: The Canon is older but also has live view and DOF preview button which I thought would be handy on the other hand the Nikon is much newer but doesnt have the DOF feature or live view. The three Q I have are; How often would DOF preview and live view be used? Which camera produces better lenses? Which would you choose? Thanks in advance. |

hi,
Both Canon and nikon are good. The DOF I try it one when I understand how to use it. Its good to see the focus and amount of light directly on the view finder. the live view I use it on difficult angles, and on tripod, but most of the time I use the view finder. I would chose canon only because brand preference. I had the same doubts a few months ago fortunately I chose the eos 1000D. I say fortunately, because when I get hold of a nikon I realize that it didnt have the essential buttons like canon. like ISO, WB(whiteBalance).... on nikon you have to navigate to the menu to change this essencial options, and lose precious time to take picture. i think eos 1000D accepts ALL canon lenses and nikon is limited to his type , not all nikon lenses work on d3000. not sure what I suggest is to go to the store and try try try both the cameras. and see what fits you. There are many pros and cons for both, many readers will have responses to deal & explain those but I will only deal with just one thing for now...
With the 1000D, you will be able to use all EOS Canon lenses ever since the time EOS came about. With the D3000, the AutoFocus is CRIPPLED when using older (or even NEW lenses) that are NOT AF-S designated or lenses that have NO AF motor within the lens. Many new owners have learned the hard way when they bought their second or third lenses. The D3000 is AF-S lenses only, if you want AutoFocus to work. (other than that, I think the d3000 and the 1000D are the same in standing)

It looks like you've already made up your mind, but for what it's worth, I think you've made the right decision
