Default Portrait or landscape

I've been used to be a second photographer at my niece's wedding. ( To take shots once he's gone ) the thing is I was wondering what way to hold and take the photos. Do I take them all on the side ( portrait shots ) or normal ( landscape). The thing I was thinking is if she wants to make her own album out of them wouldn't it be easier just to take them at one angle ?

I recommended a nice mixture of both, you're sacrificing quality composition by limiting yourself to one or the other. Though shooting in landscape you can crop some shots into portrait if need be, but I still think you should mix it up

Agree with above. Why would you want to restrict yourself just to one style?
Albums are designed to take both types of format.

Thank you both for your advice...I was thinking about doing both but wasn't sure...I like shooting portrait style as I like to see all of the person/s...Guess I'll get my wedding album out and have a look at the stles in there.

There is something to be said for giving yourself a restriction and working within it. For example, for a recent set of self portraits, I decided that all would be in portrait format and converted to black and white. That gave me a starting point to work with and I was pleased with the results.

However, for a one-off event like a wedding, you are probably best not to be too rigid. You might try to work round and take portrait format shots of as many individuals as possible but don't miss other shots. When working through the pictures afterwards, you can always sort them into sets based on format, subject and other criteria.
