Default Which comp to go with...

I'm having a hard time deciding which compositional crop looks better.

Is it choice A?....

...or is it choice B?...

I lean towards "A". I like "B", but the extra "falls" in the upper left corner is kind of distracting as is having so much shore. On the other hand, it may add to the depth of the photo. Would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks ahead of time!

Personally, I like crop A. In crop B, the rocks all along the upper edge are distracting me.

Crop"A" in the other, the eye goes straight out of the image, to top left where the white water flows.Ken

I prefer the second version. I think it works to have the further shore forming a border along the top of the image. In the first image, I think the dark clump of rocks is more of a distraction because it lacks the context provided in the second shot. The flow of light also provides a second diagonal from bottom left to top right which contrasts well with the flow of the river (and, coincidently, meets it round about the bottom right point on a "rule of thirds" grid).

Context, flow and borders are all important compositional tools.

First and foremost, the silky texture of the rapids is really nice and very well captured.
The light is also well balanced thoughout the picture.
The use of framing with existing elements in a photography is tricky but when it works it is fantastic.
Regarding the crop, I think the second crop has that framing effect given by the rocks at both sides of the stream. It is Fantastic!
