Default Photowalk in a University

Hi! First of all, I am new here in DPS and so far I have learned a great deal just by browsing through the threads and reading questions by members answered by more knowledgeable members. Now I have a question or favor of my own.

I will be having my first photowalk this saturday morning (yey!) at the University of the Philippines (one of the oldest schools here) There are old and new buildings, statues, and nature as well, I also expect a lot of people walking around. (I hope I can shoot them all!)

I am hoping for tips from you guys on the photowalk itself and tips for structure and nature shots. I hope to impress my companions! hehe!

Downside, I not using a DSLR but the Canon S5 IS. I have a tripod and uv and circular polarizing filters as my tools. I am hoping I can get tips here as well.

Sorry for asking many questions! Thanks in advance!

Too late for the walk but how did you get on?

What approaches did you use in composing your pictures?

Hi! I really didn't know how to approach it. I just tried to apply look for lines, for possible framing, and heck anything that looks good. Here are some of the shots I took. Hope you could comment on this. thanks!

Here's a link to the shots I took.

I notice lots of things like trees and some shots where you have used those forms to frame the people depicted. For a compositional approach next time you go out, how about making more deliberate use of that approach?

For example, here is an example with strong framing. By contrast, there are one or two others where I think a deliberate use of framing would have improved the result.

Yup you're right. Trees abound in that area and the only thing I can think about on how to use them is for framing. I actually cropped photo one and two with that in mind but I really messed up the shot. Will keep that in mind though the next time around.

Thanks for the tip!
