Default Our family's new addition!

We got a new dog today, he's called Joey.

We adopted him from the RSPCA and are advised that he is approx 1 yr old. From his vaccine record it seems he has been in kennels since 3 months at least. He has a great nature and took the time to pose in the park this afternoon!!!

Anyway, about the picture, personally although the flash it slightly unnatural I was wondering about the crop. Does the closer crop benefit? I think he gets lost in the larger version however the larger looks more natural.

I thought about a rule of thirds but the fence seems to effect the balance.

Can you please let me have your thoughts??

I like the crop better. He's a beautiful dog. I'm sure he's going to be a loyal friend.

What a cool looking dog! Do you know what mix he is? As for the pic I like the crop...when it comes to animal portraits (as opposed to animal action) the closer the better, IMHO.

I beleive he is a whippet crossed with a Lurcher, unfortunately you dont get to know from th RSPCA however he looks incredibly like my other dogs I once had who were similar.

That doesn't look like redeye to me -- more like reddish brown dog eyes.

Cute dog. Crop is better.

I think thats my monitor, its brown on my screen, kind of an orangy brown. Its caused me some issues with colour, I work from 3 screens in seperate places and there isnt really any consistency.

Thank you for the comments, @ Jim - haha, its the angle, its really soft and totally stupid. He would just get up to sniff you the lick your fingers before going to look for something he shouldnt be eating off the worktop!

Love the crop! I think it works because the head is in the center horizontally but not vertically and his body leads the eye to look further into the picture and off centre (while crossing a horizontal line of third, where the eye naturally wants to go).
