Default Sportsteam group photo

Hi!

On Sunday I'm going to take my first ever group photo for friend's handball-team. The location is already set. Only the players are keen to receive a nice team photo.
I think it is not too complicated to place the persons (tall people go to the back, some are sitting...).
I believe the group photo is less a challenge than the portraits afterwards. Anyways, could anyone here give some tips on the group photo, but especially on the portraits?
Where is the perfect "line" to "cut" the person on the portrait? Better the chest or the waist? Maybe they want the sponsor to be visible on the jersey?! Plus, what should they look like? Smiling? Serious?

Perhaps you can share some experiences, thanks for that :-)

Regards,
Konstantin

Did you all ready do the shoot? My own personal opinion is I would have taken it as a fun shoot. Perhaps have some people kneeling in front while others are standing behind them. I would have everyone at a slight angle with one shoulder towards the back. So while doing a shot this way you wont have to worry about cropping anyone from the waist as it will be a full bodied shot.
I'd probably also have a few props of the game in some peoples hands. A glove or a bat. perhaps have one person thats kneeling have one hand on it while the tip is on the ground

Opps I just read the date, so guess you all ready had the shoot. How did it go and have you posted the picture???
sorry I didnt see this sooner
