Default water as a foreground, yes or no?

hi all,
i attached two photos as examples of what i'm asking in the title.
when i shot the first one i was just thinking how the grass on the riverside isn't so representative and nice, it wasn't thick and green at all. so i was just taking few shots (i had just few minutes) of an old ruined mill with a river as the foreground. later, when i saw photos on my computer i thought maybe i did wrong...
so, should i include the riverside or it is good as it is?
for the second one.. it is impossible to take a picture of these two small waterfalls from a different angle. the terrain is so unapproachable and only reason i could take the photo as it is, is that in this time of year the water level is the lowest and i could walk on the other side of the river on the revealed rocks of riverbed,
is it even clear enough that it is a river flow in the foreground? should i just forget about this photo?

I'm not quite sure what you are asking, but for these type of shots, "plain" water is not that interesting. Usually, water that is flowing over rocks is much more interesting. For examples, I'll give you a link to DPS member EOBeav's Flickr site - Flickr: Rick.Scheibner's Photostream

So, I think you could crop out some of the water in both of your shots. I do like the 2nd one better than the first.

For me the first one is better.

However, I wonder if you have considered filling the frame more with the subject - the water falls....

Then perhaps you can try to frame it with some of the foliage and rocks nearby....?

yes l did consider that... but at the time l thought that surrounding is just not nice to be on the picture. of course, when l saw the picture on the computer l realized that any surrounding is better then no surrounding at all.
l just have to go there again and retake this picture.
thanks for the comment
