Default Indoor warm colors need cooling

I started shooting some pictures for my friend's graduation (same thing in a church). The lighting reeked havoc on the hue the pictures came out. I couldn't use flash (because I was in the very back) and was monkeying w/ the shutter speeds.
I found that 1/30-1/50 usually yielded clearer shots but the colors were too warm.
ISO 400-500
F- 5.6
I could cool it off in PP but would like to how how to get cooler colors while shooting in this kind of light. Up close, the flash usually fixes the light issue. I wanted to avoid using flashes.

Here's an example.

Thanks guys

What was your white balance set to? Were you shooting RAW?

Ok, that is a nightmare scenario. First you have to take some test shots and change your WB until you get something acceptable. Then you really should be shooting in RAW as OS says. This will allow you to fix WB in post. You really need to bump your ISO up to let you get shutter speeds fast enough to stop the motion blur from the little guys moving around. And don't be afraid to move around to the sides or stand up as long as you aren't blocking someone continuously.

A key thing that you need to know/understand is that your shutter speed has nothing to do with the color. Your color is all related your your WB(white balance). You need to check your manual on how to change the WB for different lighting conditions... or.. as others have said above me, shoot in RAW because the WB is one of the easiest things to fix in Post Processing if you don't get it right in camera.

Cheers

disagree. A slower shutter speed allows more ambient light in. If the white balance is off, it makes the colour cast worse.

The inference from his original statement was that it was yellow because of the the shutter speed, which is what I adressed. Yes, it was perhaps more/worse yellow, but bottom line is it is a WB issue and no amount of shutter speed tinkering will make it the proper color. Right?
But yes, I could have been clearer/more accurate to the point that the OPs shutter speed wouldn't allow for them to get a proper WB setting. I was trying to get him to focus on WB as the issue, not his shutter speed.
