I personally would upgrade the kit you have now, probably starting with the 24-105 F4L, absolutely awesome lens and incredibly sharp!

invest on lenses. 28-135's a good workhorse, but i'd rather get the 24-105L. 18-55, well... it's nothing compared to the 24-70. maybe an 85 1.4/f, a really wide one (10-22L), heck, get the whole line of L lenses.

but first, get one or two 580ex flashes. strobography can be very addictive.

Default Thank you

Thank you for all the great advice. The type of photography I want to get into, I have no idea. I just love going out shooting and trying to express the world how I see it. I like cityscapes, outdoors, and what ever else I can focus my lens on. Maybe it's I just did not find my niche yet. With me not knowing my niche I just looking to buy a good rounded kit until I find my niche.

It's less useful for cityscapes and such, but a good speedlight will improve your images dramatically, especially if you go all Strobist and stuff.

If you want something to help with landscapes/cityscapes, a good tripod setup is indispensable, and will last you a very long time.

in that case, i stick with what i said - sell your kit, get 28-135IS and 50mm 1.8/f. after that, maybe 3-6months later, you'll know what lens to get exactly for yourself. i don't even have a dslr of me own and i know exactly what i want... lol

Selling his 28-135 to get the 28-135IS seems rather silly. It's not a huge step up and the 28-135IS isn't a fantastic lense - I don't think it would be worth the significant cost. I'd definitely support the 50mm purchase, though. You can always do with a nice, fast 50mm.

i would go for an L zoom, like the 24-70 or 24-105, or if you need more wide stuff then 17-40 or 16-35, or i would go with a low light prime like 50 1.4 or 85 1.8 depending on which focal length you need
