the last concert i shot, i was forced to use my 70-200 lens, mainly because the performers used a raised stage - higher and farther than the usual. i originally planned to use my 24-70, but then after seeing the set-up, switched to my tele. what helped me the most that evening was the large 2.8 opening i had, for both the lenses i brought.

i hardly used my external flash because the stage was so brightly lit, with minimal lighting changes during the performance.

but then, depending on the mood you intend you capture in your photos, you may opt not to use a flash.

since most concerts almost always have spotlights, use that to your advantage. you can have a pseudo-sin city effect for your shots at 1/60. i know that as you zoom on an s5, you'll get a 3.5/f, so you'll have to compensate with shutter speed and ISO. otherwise, you might want to use a slave flash. i have a vivitar df200 that i use sometimes, but the recycle time just kills me. if you have something like a 430ex or better on slave, that will definitely help.
