I have finally gotten the knack for focusing on the subject's eyes while taking a photo. It was not until I was taking a photo of two people together that I realized I didn't know what to focus on when there were two people involved. What do I do? Thanks.

Stop down.
Using a smaller aperture (larger f-number) will give you a thicker DoF, into which you can fit the eyes of both your subjects. If your camera has one, you can check if you've covered both folks with a DoF preview button.

It really all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you shoot wide open then you probably want to focus on the woman's nose, but if you stop down then it may not matter if you focus on the book. It also depends on how far away you are and how long a lens you have. I would suggest you look online for an online depth of field calculator which will show you how deep or thin your depth of field will be depending on all the appropriate parameters.
