Default newbie with questions

I recently bought a nikon D3000. Before it was a point and shoot cannon. I've been reading up on shutter, aperture, and ISO. But i'm still a little hazy, like yesterday evening, I took my moms dog out to practice. I set it on "S" but still very blurry pics. I was trying to get nature pics which included movement. But they all seemed to be shaky or blurry. Not sure where my jumping off spot should be. Any tips, suggestions, foundation rules, etc would be greatly appreciated.

What did you blur: your subject or the background?

Hi carianna! Could you post an example for us to see with EXIF data? Blur could be caused by many things including camera shake at slow shutter speeds, bad focus, or shallow depth of field. An example with it's settings will help us help you determine.

Examples, please, including your settings! (EXIF -- meaning, shutter speed, aperture, and ISO at least. They should all be recorded right in the file).

If you were in "S" mode, you may have chosen a shutter speed that's too slow. It's hard to "know" what a good speed is in a given situation until you've got experience and intuition. The camera itself (in "P" mode) will select a shutter speed for you, which can be a helpful hint.

Should've been instantaneous. Go ahead and try to post it again.

Something didn't work out there! Try editing your post and putting in that link again.

Oops! LOL!!

Look at this thread for information on how to post images from Flickr and other photo sharing sites.

Don't worry...you'll get it! We're patient.
