The cropped one looks a lot like a watercolour... but done with dirty water (too much dark grey / blue). If I was going to crop in this kind of way, I would have aimed to make the "windows" relatively much larger.
However, I think I prefer the original. With a bit of work to bump up the brightness and make the silhouetted landscape more obvious against the background, I think it would look very powerful, especially with powerlines at the bottom echoing the spread of the clouds above. Wulf |

wulf,
Great minds, etc. Everything looks odd after I post. Trying the larger window suggestion now. Thanks

The crop is cool in it's own way, but I really like the original. It's very dramatic, and I love the way the power lines follow the lines of the clouds (or vice versa!). I think if I were going to crop it I'd allow for a bit more blue sky to show.
Great shot!

Another vote for the original.
It's an awesome cloud so I can see why you cropped where you did but it just doesn't seem to do the picture justice. I don't think the original is too much to take in since, for me at least, the clouds lead to a point above the power pole and then there's almost an arrow's head pointing down to it. Was this local to you? It would be fun to shoot those kind of clouds. Suze |

Suze,
Clouds come at a price, as they have brought us over 100 inches of snow since January. Once I got used to the 0 - 15 degree temps enough to stand outside for as long as it takes to get a dramatic lineup, some amazing scenes unfolded. Fun? Hmmmm . . .
