I agree wholeheartedly that shallow DOF is something that we need to have in our back pocket at all times. But that is not the same as bokeh which relies on specular highlights and should, in my opinion, be pursued only when the situation calls for it.
(I checked out this article at Wikipedia before I made my original comments.)

Bokeh isn't SOMETHING. Its the way the Out Of Focus areas are rendered. It's a quality, not a technique. Terminology is important in this case.

well, id go for faster shutter speed if i want to maintain the wide open aperture, however, the problem is when u shoot with flash(es) that only lets u use like about 1/200-1/250. then maybe u would consider something else.

I think this is great advice if you find yourself unprepared for a situation. I'll probably invest in additional filters now other than my basic UV filters. I have come home from a few outings to realize that not a single 1 of my shots turned out because I was forcing it in unfavorable conditions. I wish i had focused at the time on what would have worked, instead I spent a few hours with nothing really to show. I came home, did some reading and figured out what I had been doing wrong. Great philosophy.

Ps, I thoroughly enjoy learning from the more experienced members here, but do not enjoy reading through pages of egoism. I think it's extremely beneficial when others offer a different point of view or solution, but there is a right way of presenting it. Remember the purpose of the forums in Digital Photography School.
