Just got done shooting another pair of triangulars last week and got the settings so the shutter is at 200 and 250 with the ISO as high as I can get it.
I have been leary on trying to use the flash on my camera because it is just the camera's flash, I don't have a flash to attach. I have done a couple of shots with the flast and they look really nice but I want to get one that I can aim away from the wrestlers and bounce off of the ceiling. Once I can get enough money, then work on getting the faster glass. Just working on getting the best with what I have for now.
I post a couple of shots from the meets in my SYS section.

Default indoor sports

Fast glass, fast glass, and even faster glass! f/2.8 will make a huge difference for indoor sports. Most high schools I am in have terrible lighting at best. I would try and avoid flash as much as possible, in Ohio you can NOT use flash at V-ball, wrestling you can use it from the stands, but not on the floor. for wrestling you can use shutter of 200, I use 320 for basketball and it is o.k. for me, f/2.8 play with your other settings a bit, shutter priority a bit over exposed, iso 2000 - 3200. I do it for fun, and for the school, also post to a web radio station that covers high school sports. lots of my noisy OOF badly light sports photos can be found here:

I sometimes end up with images of same quality as per light and stuff, but i use photoshop to get around it... main things to mess with are:

-Brightness/contrast
-Levels
-Color balance and/or selective color
-Gradient Maps

As for brightness/contast it is easy to manage but as for color balance and levels I suggest u let photoshop try to balance it using auto levels and auto color options. If you still dont get it right change levels manually

Gradient maps add depth of color, usually keep it black and white, set it to overlay or softlight depending on the image and which would look better and decrease transparency to give it more saturation

Also Curves could add a very nice touch to the image, those are a bit more complex to explain but easy to use. You can always look up tutorials

Photoshop is a very powerful program, nowadays it is heavily used on those magazine model shoots to make them look better, naturally they dont look that hot, or at least alot of them lol

Just so you know, an accessory shoe flash while shooting in burst mode may still not be the answer...the recycle time of the flash usually can't keep up with the camera's burst mode
