Maybe on a trip to the sun you need something stronger. You don't want to shot a macro of the sun and then lost that picture only for a little hot weather

i would find an open source of lava, dip it in, and throw it in a tub of water...i would chisel it out afterward...and of course i'd take photographs of the whole process so i could have something to store on the thing!

Got to your neighbors swimming pool. Take a wooden stand that will stick out of the water by about a six inches. Put the IoSafe on the wooden stand. Pour gasoline on top of the water rather heavy. Set the fuel on fire and commence to let it burn. The top of the wooden stand should burn and dump the IoSafe in the water. Leave it there till the fire goes out.

To test how waterproof the external hard drive is, just toss it in a lake. Then, test how fireproof it is by telling your spouse you tossed it in a lake!

Why not combine pleasure and work (work = being tasked with testing its fire- and waterproof capabilities) and bring it to one of my favorite places on earth to photograph - Hawaii? I'd alternate bringing it surfing with me, and flinging it down an active volcano. Yes, surfing with an HD sounds like great fun.

Default fireproof?

Place it under the space shuttle while your taking your award-winning night launch picture!

To test this properly you need to test the fireproof and waterproof features simultaneously. This will involve submerging the drive half way and rigging a torch to heat the opposite side. Ideally this should be done while transferring photos to and from the device.

I'd try it with a nuclear bomb (pretty sure it's not fireproof)....and then after a few days of hosing it off and the fire not going out, I would then know that it's waterproof!!
