Default dPS Forum Competition 2010!

Digital Photography School are excited to announce that we have a great photography competition starting right here in the forums tomorrow.

We are also very excited to have an exclusive sponsor in DigitalRev who have sponsored the competition to the tune of $2900.00 USD which is very exciting! Thank you DigitalRev!...Now, let's get down to business shall we!

What is the dPS Forum Competition? First things first, with the help of your feedback, we have come up with what we think will be a great competition to get you all thinking about your photography and what each image means to you rather than just how it looks. This isn't about having the most amazing final image and it's certainly not about having an image taken with the most expensive camera. It's about portraying a theme through your image. There will be a first, second and third place as chosen by our judging panel. The winning images will be the photographs that best tell the story of the theme.

What is the theme? The theme sounds simple, but will be quite difficult and certainly open to interpretation. The theme is "Life"

How will the competition work? The competition starts tomorrow, here in the competition section of the forum, there will be four separate threads - one a week for four weeks. You can enter one image at any time in that four week period, or, you can enter one image each week (There will be a separate thread each week) up to a total of four images.

How do you win? Your image has to say "Life" to our judges... It's that simple, right? You need to think about what an image says to you when you look at it, how do you feel when you look at an award winning photo on the front cover of your favourite magazine? That's what we want you to think about and capture - the emotion of photography.

Terms & Conditions?
For those of you that follow me on Twitter, you will know that I despise "Rights Grabbing" competitions! Well, our rules and T's & C's are very simple.

1. The judges decision is final.

2. There is no cash prize alternative.

3. DigitalRev prize will be awarded in your local currency at the exchange rate of the day.

4. We only want to put your winning photos on our blog, possibly on the DigitalRev blog and maybe at an outside chance in a magazine - this is only to show the world that you are, in fact, a winner. You keep ALL rights to your image, forever and ever amen.

5. Each week there will be a single thread within the competition section as specified by our community manager, the competition is open when the thread is posted and is closed as per the date and time in that thread.

Make sure you come back tomorrow for kick off!

Just a question, do the images have to be shot within a certain time frame or can we use something for our existing portfolio? Don't know if I have anything that fits the category, just curious if the date of the photo was a factor.

Thanks and looking forward to participating!!

I have the same question as fbroschart
Do they have to be new photos taken during the contest time frame? Thanks.

Hopefully existing images are acceptable, as it is the dead of winter here and not a lot of chances to get really good shots outside.

THe point is to get people thinking about a shot, not to try and make something you've already taken fit the theme - but, yes, existing images are fine. :-)
