I like the one with the whole glass in MUCH better than the other. It doesn't look too dark on my screen, but I am also coming from the laptop. Sometimes I print photos just to see how they look "for real" and I am usually more pleased with the print than what I see on the screen. ;-)
I'm not a pro, obviously, but if my wedding/event/etc photographer took this photo, I'd definitely want it included in my book - I love the lights! |

I would like to see the glass pop a little more.
This could be done post capture, or better still a shot of off camera flash lifting the highlights... |

I always go with closer in for some reason. Too me it just makes it more focused and interesting.

Thanks so much for your thoughts! I was leaning towards the closer one because of the contrast in textures and for the composition. I love it the first way too, so I've been torn. Thanks for suggesting giving it more pop! I'm going to lighten it up and lift the highlights on the glass in CS4. Thank you!

I'm not sure whether you have already made up your mind on which crop to go with, but I did want to say that I have a strong preference for the 1st crop showing the entire glass. The only way I can think of to describe why I like the 1st better is that I think the 2nd crop is too "up close and personal"- for me the picture loses its good qualities with the glass so close in. And I do agree with the person who said that they would include this picture in an album. I love the picture.

Thank you!! Glad you like it! No, I haven't made up my mind yet because I keep going back and forth. You've made some good points. Now I'm back to square one! LOL. What if I cropped in just a tad and moved the glass a little to the left? |
