Default Volleyball Photo Critique

Hey everyone, so this is one of my star amateur photos. I cropped this:

Photobucket

to this:

Photobucket

1/400
f/2.0
ISO 1600

I know the noise is ridiculous but the lighting in the gym renders anything below dark. Is my composition good? Is the photo missing anything?

wow great shot! but actually i like the 1st picture. because to me the 2nd one is too tightly cropped and i got the feeling of there are just 4 people playing at the time. moreover i like the reflection on the smooth wooden floor in the 1st one. of course it's still better to crop away the concrete (or even the noisy wall if you want) on the upper part and the one hand on the right part. nice photo..thanks for sharing

How about if you tried cropping the arm out of the right as well as the ceiling and the floor? Essentially it would be a horizontal/landscape photo, but I'm wondering how that would work...

To me, the first shot gives a stronger sense of being in the midst of the game. I do like the reflection. But I would agree the one crop I would like in the first version is the arm jutting in from the right. As for the noise, I know how tough the lighting can be in those gyms. It's a nice shot however you choose to crop it.

I like the action in the shot; I think I would try to crop all of the ceiling out and the arm also. I think this would be an improvement over the second photo.
