Default close up eyes

just recently got my first "studio" flash and was messing around with it earlier tonight. I got a couple of images that I thought came out pretty good... this is one that I tweaked a little bit with the canon software (the original was shot in RAW my photoshop version doesn't support this version of RAW)

Anyways, just looking for some critique on lighting and processing and even composition if something really strikes you as off.

Original Exif

Camera: Canon Rebel XSi
Lens: Sigma 70-300mm f4.0-5.6
tv: 1/125th
av: 11.0
ISO: 100
focal length: 214mm
Flash: Alien Bee B800
Processing Software: Canon Digital Photo Professional v3.4

Thanks in advance

Congrats on your new gear. I actually like the original better. It's a very strong crop and that's ok but the magnification on your post image brings out a lot of texture in the skin that I then start looking at and then i'm looking at the pores and hair stubble and...well you get the idea...
Light looks good, the sepia-like tone looks good.

I think I would like the second image, the edited one, over the first, but for the darkness of the eyes. I feel more detail is visible in the color version. I like the tight crop. I might go even a little tighter, leaving off the one ear and a bit of the nose to bring the eyes even more into focus. But I'd have to see the crop to know for sure if it worked.

I like the desaturated look better, but like the others the first size is better due to less visible normal skin stuff (pores, etc.) which are a bit distracting.

Hope you have fun with that flash!
