I'm torn. I like the composition of the picture with the rocks better, and the rocks anchor the photo for me. When they're not there it seems like a whole lot of empty space that isn't uniform or helpful in any way. The only problem I have with the rocks is the snow because my eyes immediately travel to the white on the rocks instead of the pier.

... I'm still going to vote for the rocks.

I like with the rocks. The logs/pier without the rocks, just looks lost.
