Question edit or original?

this one is a really basic self-portrait: 580 exII at full power from top left, 1/200, f32, iso 100.
which one do you guys prefer ?

the original:

or the edit:

i've tried sort of a dave hill effect, but there just wasn't enough background details to make it pop...

feel free to leave a comment if you (don't) like what you see!

cheers - sven

Welcome to DPS.
I don't see any picture, anyway I guess it would be better to post these ones in the critique section, older members/admins correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm no pro but out of the two I believe the first one is better. For me the second one looks like you've cut him out and added him to another picture. Its because the sun is behind him yet the front of him is abit light

i love both of them, but if you insist me to choose, the edited one is more "pop up", thanks for sharing

Welcome! I agree that something in between the two would be perfect. I really like the first one - except that I want to see more of your face.

I'm with the others on this one. First one is where it's at!

I actually like a bit of 'pop' (like you have in the second one), but I would try a half way edit like it was suggested so the guy won't look added to the picture.

I love how the sun is captured! I would probably try to diminish the intensity of the glare close to his right hand. Just personal preference..

This isn't going to help you any, but I like the second one better. I don't think it looks like you've photoshopped yourself into another photo. It doesn't look exactly natural, but I think it works.
