Great tutorial on borders... Helped me quite a bit. I don't tend to use grey ones though Choosing a Border by *inacom on deviantART

I think the border works well with this shot. It adds a certain "feel" to it.

If you like borders use them. Forget the comments. But they have a practical purpose for me. If you're sending some thing to print, so many places will crop your image to fit standards sizes, for instance, cropping your full frame 8x12 image to fit 8x10.

But adding the borders in PS, you can make an 8x10 canvas, and use transform to drag and resize the 8x12 inside the 8x10 canvas... making a nice border.

I usually like borders; they often add to the presentation. I think some people think it makes it look more professional. Maybe that's why they get more comments?

This is a lovely picture. To border or not? Personally, it is all a matter of taste. A border can draw the eye into the picture but in this one you have lovely vignetting which does this anyway. As long as the border does not distract from the picture then it becomes a personal thing.

I've moved this across to comparison critique - before and after is about how you got from A to B, while this section is for discussing whether A or B is better.

I like the border version of your image. If the image wasn't so dark, I think the width would detract.

One of the reasons I like Lightroom so much is the ability to add & experiment with borders via Mogrify. Personally, I generally prefer the traditional gallery type frames to make the picture pop.

I don't mind the border, but the white line between the image in the border bothers me. Also, the giant watermark running the middle of the borderless images make them a little difficult to compare.
