On the white balance, I usually set it to shady or cloudy when outside (maybe I should try sunny) and to auto or flourescent when inside. I shoot a lot of outdoor portraits and sometimes get a green or yellow cast on my pictures. Armando edited one of them recently and it forced me to learn to fix my casts. I do not have the big photoshop, so I can't adjust the colors like he can. I went to enhance - adjust color - adjust hue/saturation. I clicked on the dropdown and picked the color that I didn't like, in my case it is usually yellow, and I desaturated that color until the skin tone looked normal and matched his edit. Sometimes I have to mask out the background if I want yellow to remain in it. I think it is easier in CS4.
But yes, I have a Canon and struggle with yellow casts. I don't know if it is a Canon thing though, or something else I am doing wrong. Hope this helps. |

Thanks one last time for everyone's help and mandyatm for the info on color casts. Here is my re-edit of the photo, using the suggested crop and the other things mentioned. Thoughts? Further critique or suggestions? I wold love to up the contrast on my dad's face but it just makes his wrinkles look like the Grand Canyon!

Thanks tott - gave it to him this past weekend and was very happy - of course he was probably more happy that we made the trip back home so he could see his granddaughter again.
