I prefer the B&W. There is more emphasis on the shape and contrast of the scene so it really seems to stand out more to me. That and my eye then goes right to the waterfall.

For a nature contest, black and white can be a powerful thing, but it can also be a way to cop out of having ugly colors. A lot of times, going to black and white makes images more appealing then they were in color, especially when the colors aren't particularly exciting. If the water was muddy and the plants brown and withered, then black and white would be awesome. The black and white version you have DOES strengthen the subject, but the color you have is worth keeping, cause it's comprised mainly of very appealing earth tones and it's not over saturated.
My verdict: Keep the colors. -Brian |

Although I'm usually drawn to black and white photos, I would say that for this competition you should definitely go with the color version! Definitely pops more.
