Exclamation Teen Photographer - Help Needed!

Hello, I recently bought my first dSLR and am still figuring it out and fooling with the settings.

I'm wondering about the composition of this photo.. what would be the best way to position it?

Please let me know your opinion (other ideas too!) and any other critizism in mind. None will be taken to heart, only to be used as a learning tool. Thank you for your time and input!

Hmm. Moving a little tiny bit to the right on the second one would be good. The first one is spot on.

I agree - both are very nice but I like the first one (portrait mode) best. Great job! What camera do you have? What settings did you use? (EXIF data)?

The first one looks more better than the second. Good work.

Geez, you got lucky with nature / location, didn't you I think that's just a fantastic shot with the rainbow going in to the house. I prefer the first one I think. Just because more of the rainbow is visible, and the rainbow is more the subject than the field. So in the landscape one, the brightness of the field is competing with the rainbow to my eye.

Thank you all for your comments!!!

Here is the info..
Nikon D60
f/9
1/125
ISO 100
46 mm
The Sharpness and contrast are "Hard" because I used the optimize image option in my camera and selected Vivid. I've used that setting in a lot of my shots! Is that a bad thing?

Very nice photos.

"Vivid" is neither good nor bad - it just depends on your preferences. To me, on my Nikon, vivid often puts too much color - and too much saturation - into a photo. I'd rather have less color captured/processed in camera, and then tweak the color in post if necessary.

But for your photos here, I don't think there's too much color at all. So, good job!

I like the first version best, the second has something on the left at the fence, a stick i think, that draws my attention over there. If you can clone it out both would be good.

Portrait composition is correct for this subject. More pleasing to the eye. The vivid setting will get tiresome after a bit for you. Experimentation is the foundation of photography and as such you shouldn't limit yourself. Nice kit you have to work with.
