Default Colour or B&W?

I was out with my wife wandering around Crescent Beach in South Surrey. I saw this crow sitting on a bench so I took a few shots of him. I was amazed how "tame" this guy was. Let me know which version you think would make a better print.

Hard to say...I really like the color of the wood he is sitting on...but overall, the black and white one is more appealing. Both are great though!

Thanks Johannah. This is one of the only bird shots that I am happy with, although I took some duck photos the other day at the Granville Island Market yesterday (still have not processed them). I was looking at your photos on your Flickr account. Very nice shots! I really loved the one called "Guitar Case" (with the clasp standing up). Maybe it is because I love to play guitar, too! Do you play in a band or something. I noticed a lot of photos of instruments, or at least parts of them. Thanks again for the comments! Cheers.

I'd pick the second one. the colors in the first just seem off a bit for me. If you were interested in further processing (on either), I'd suggest adjusting the levels a bit to get the black, blacker and follow it up with a touch of USM sharpening.

Default B&W

B&W i choose, as this strengthen the black color of the bird. On other hand i think you can add some contrast to the photo!

You can try something different. Perhaps, if you can photoshop... You can make one part of a picture color, and the rest B&W.

To do this, go to Image > Adjustments > Black and White
Now, select the History Brush Tool in your toolbox of Photoshop...
now, start brushing all the black and white off of the bird... and whalah!

took about 30 seconds on this one.. but if you can, you could probably make the bird stand out more by saturating the colors.. and messing the picture... but here's what i got after i did those two things.

the picture would stand out a lot more if the bird was more colorful, heh.

I like both but I am a sucker for black and white. I think if you dialed up the blacks and contrast a little in the second one it would be great. (Its great the way it is too!) Nice to see another lower mainlander on here.

How about in between? [Hope it's okay that I edited your image, I just wanted to get across my point, and show you what I meant...]

Halfway desaturated, hue shifted towards teal, and slightly darkened. Gradient map would probably look quite good, too.
