I think it looks great as a black and white..............

This version is black and white with just a splash of color to give it more contrasting tones. I desaturated 95% and edited it from there. I think the 5% of color makes a big difference.

I'll be the oddball and say that I like the color version. There is a bit of a blue hue in the background that complements a bluish hue in the bird's wing.

I prefer the black and white one personally because of the strong black colour of the bird. And also the black and white one has 'removed' the distracting background.

I don't think the color is exciting enough to enhance the photo much. For some reason the colored one makes the bird look kinda ragged, while the black and white makes it looks stronger and more majestic. I like the color of the wood, but you have a very strong subject and the B&W compliments that.
