Default White Balance Dilemma on Golf Shot

Hi there,

I hope this is the correct place for this...

I am having issues deciding on the correct white balance for this photo (actually have a whole lot more of these, but want to make sure I am getting the white balance right before I continue on fixing them...)

the first one is "as shot"
The second one is corrected to "daylight" because i was outside in the glaring sunlight...all day long...
I was shooting in auto WB mode assuming I'd adjust it later if need be.

Initially I thought they were a little cool, with a bluish cast to them, so i adjusted the settings and warmed them up... but then i started feeling like they were too orange...and now i can't decide...

So, which edit is better? Which seems as though it is closer to natural? or is it something in between these two?

Thanks!!

"daylight"

Ps this is from the practice rounds at The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass :-)

First I REALLY envy you for being there at Sawgrass! I would choose the daylight one. Being a golfer myself, my attention is captured more on your daylight WB image. Great shot by the way. As is I really like it. I believe you're still going to tweak this image tho... can i suggest eliminating that line behind? I believe its a rope or something. Easily can be removed with the clone tool. That is of course IMO.

Cheers!

Did you shoot raw? If so you might be able to pick a better colour between the two that is more neutral. I'd tend towards the second one, but I really think the right spot is somewhere between them.

I like the first one, and then hit the levels to punch it up.

I think the first one is better, but I would lighten up the golfer's face. You where there so you are the only one that knows which one better replicates the actual situation. That said, does it really matter if it is a perfect replica of what was or do you just want to go for the best looking image now -- that is a decision that only you can make.

Thanks for all of your opinions..

In actuality, Kirbinster is right, I want the pics to look good, more than I want them to represent the actual scene. I guess I should say I want them to look good, but still look natural and not processed. I have gone through some more of the way too many that I took and have been going somewhere in between with the white balance, depending on the shot.

I just get very indecisive about these things, lol. Its nice to have someone else's opinion.

Now to make it through the rest of the pics, hopefully I can get them posted sometime this century...

I also prefer the first one. Maybe just a TINY bit of adjustment, but not much! Great shot btw!

Why not use the temperture scale to adjust it to somewhere in the middle of the two variations. I use it to fine tune the WB for what I want. Daylight is around 5600K I believe and the first photo is cooler than that. It might be worth a try.
