I would say #2.

I like the composition better.

Both are good shots though.

# 2 for me,

DOF looks more natural, and it helps to have more of your subject in the photo to create a good DOF,

nicely taken!!

Normally I don't look at posts such as this because the idea behind the Assignments is for you to present what you consider to be your best image for the subject. If you are seeking the assistance of others then you are defeating the purpose. My opinion.

Having said that shot 2 is definitely better, but it also has many faults. Before you rush into entering an image take a look at what others are doing. Also, look at the composition of your shot, one problem I see immediately is it would work better if it adhered to the Rule of Thirds. Think about what the assignment is about and then set about creating what you consider to be the "best" shot.

Take a look on the web for tutorials on "Depth of Field" and Composition.

i'm gonna buck the trend and say 1.

#2 is a bit Ho-Hum and doesn't really spark any interest. Well exectuted but esentailly a bit boring.

#1 may not be as well exectued but at least there is something there to spark some interest.
