Default Pelican Island comparison

Hi all,

I have two edits of the same shot - one more vivid and one with more muted tones.

Temporary Pelican Island - muted tones

Temporary Pelican Island - vibrant

What do you like/dislike about the shots and which would you choose?

Thanks so much in advance for your critique,

Kristy

Hi Kristy,

Personally I prefer the picture with the muted tones...it makes it seem older or more dream-like to me. I think the brighter edit seems too tropical, and for some stupid reason in my mind I don't associate pelicans with tropical (what can I say, I live in the midwest so I have no clue)?

I was also wondering about some sort of crop, to remove the dingy-looking seaweed in the bottom right corner, but so that the pelicans weren't smack-dab in the center? Although right now I like their placement. Not sure what I would suggest for that, or if you really like the seaweed and want to keep it in.

Second one. Or maybe something in between.

I absolutely love the vibrant colors in the second version! No doubt about it.

The only stupid question is the one that is never asked, except maybe “Don’t you think it is about time you audited my return?”

Default Thanks

Thanks very much guys,

Shell - yeah.. I wasn't too sure about the seaweed on the bottom right, but I had previously had a couple of edits without it, and in the end I though it helped frame the shot - anyway, I'm keen for opinions about the composition too! So here is the cropped version

Changing composition

Thanks again everyone,
Kristy

I like the cropped muted one the best. Something about the colors made me take a second look, while the more vibrant one looked almost too tropical and more vacation-y.

Yep... I love the cropped muted one too!

The bright colours look good, but the muted one seems much more unique to me, and I feel like I can look at it much longer!
